Hiraeth 03:38
Arise! Denizens! We can only lose our chains Do you not tire of this synchronised malaise? Toiling the undergrowth for those who keep us caged Do you not long to see the wilds beyond these bars? To build a world we could finally call ours? And though we may not ever see the end Every seed we sew makes it all worthwhile Standing in the shadow of a past Untouched by malfeasance and decay Harnessing the longing in our hearts I promise you there is another way They’ll never take our dreams!
2.
For too long they’ve glowered Bronze fascist eyes A public empowered Monuments decried Burn the effigies Dismantle, discard Reclaim the streets Tonight these walls come down! No tears for those who Bartered slaves Throw racist demagogues To watery graves Cast off the chains Systemic, obscene Take hold of the reigns Tonight these walls come down! Tonight these walls come down! Cleanse our streets of these Symbols of oppression History’s for the writing And this chapter ends here A cheer rang through the air Above the smell of sulphur and steel
3.
A ruling class blinded by capital Our very lives viewed as collateral Beat down, beleaguered and stricken with disease The time has passed for living on our knees And when these walls come down, we shall not forget The cruel hands that condemned us all to rot Before it’s too late you will pay for what you’ve done You bastards guilty of goading extinction
4.
And in a thousand years What evidence shall remain of us? What becomes of our libraries? Our museums? Our concert halls? Or these vast digital catacombs Transient recollections, cosmic comment sections And in a thousand years Who will document this tortured age? Who will sift through this glut, of authorless ephemera? Will these artefacts define us? These remnants of a virtual youth Will these avatars replace us? These shadows that were once so much more
